"Dave Sutherland is an incredible leader in the environmental education community in Colorado! Dave's trainings and conference presentations are always packed with educators wanting to learn from his deep knowledge of Colorado and his skill in environmental education practices. His energy, enthusiasm, and skill in environmental education and interpretation has inspired both his learners and colleagues in the ee Community from across the state.”
- Katie Navin, Executive Director, Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education
"Dave Sutherland’s support, genuine interest and deep knowledge base propelled the kernel of an idea for a neighborhood pollinator garden into a reality.
The project has galvanized our neighborhood and opened up a gate of community support and pride in what we have accomplished. I will forever be grateful to Dave for the calm, thoughtful, funny and brilliant support he lent Goss-Grove Neighborhood Pollinator Pathway Project. The multitudes of buzzing bees, butterflies, birds and beetles that float all over yards and streets are the choir that sings praises and gratitude to him.”
—Andrea Montoya, Founder, Goss-Grove Pollinator Garden

"I have recently had the good fortune to go on a “Mad May Moon” hike at Sawhill Ponds in Boulder, and on the “Ecology of the Beaver” hike at Golden Ponds in Longmont, both led by Dave. Not only did I learn new and fascinating facts and stories, I also felt Dave’s passion and enthusiasm for nature and for life. A hike with Dave is a time of exploration and learning; he has the ability to take you to extraordinary places that you never want to leave.

“A city priority is to get more native plants in the ground, so we decided to educate people at the plant exchange this year. But it takes a high level of expertise to recognize different native plants – particularly this early in the season. We couldn’t have done it without Dave’s help. He not only ID’d the plants that people brought to the exchange, he provided information about where to plant them, how to care for them and the ecological benefits. Too bad we can’t clone 1000 copies of him!”
